Women's bodies naturally follow a monthly cycle so each month, the women of WOKE meet on a Friday night - on or near the NEW MOON to practice yoga & meditation together, set intentions and share our triumphs and struggles being a woman.

Each women's circle starts with a gentle yoga & meditation practice led by Cora Geroux, that focuses on the astrological influence of the current moon. In March we will focus on our NEW MOON + Pisces energy - and explore our intuition, emotions and artistic selves ( And no - you don't need to be artistically gifted to attend ). We then open up our circle to discussion and sharing, read: real, honest connection. Then we eat - each circle is catered by an Ayurvedic chef, who prepares healthy treats that are designed specifically to balance female hormones.

WHAT'S INVOLVED

Each month we meet on either the second or third Friday evening of the month ( all 2018 dates are listed below ) from 6:30pm - 9pm. Our circle starts with a gentle yoga and meditation practice designed specifically for women. After our practice we have tea, snacks, and sit in circle.

The circle will involve discussion of a particular female theme i.e. menstrual cycle awareness, the feminine art of receiving, or feminine spiritual practice, for example. After each member has had a chance to share, and give or receive support we will engage in a beautiful art / craft / journalling ritual experience together as a feminine sangha. 

HOW IT WORKS

First Circle $69

Each circle takes a maximum of 15 women, so the relationships we form go deep. However, we are always looking to connect with new, like minded sisters. You are invited to join your first circle, for $69. At that point, if you decide that the circle is a good fit for you, you are required to make a 6 month commitment to your sisters.

6 Month Circle Membership $375

After you've attended your first circle, if you wish to continue, we require a 6 month commitment so that trust, connection and genuine sisterhood can develop. If we reach capacity, more dates may be made available.

Winter Solstice Workshop with Eliza Giles

We are incredibly excited to announce our first event experience with the incredible Eliza Giles, one of our new senior teachers and all round legend. This is one not to miss! 

This 90 minute yin inspired practice celebrates the Winter solstice as the natural connection point of yin and yang.

As the Yin force reaches its maximum ebb, we practice a traditional ritual of Sat Nam Rasayan, which provides a deep rejuvenation in true identity.

The Sat Nam Rasayan is a cleansing experience; on the day holding the most hours of darkness we use the practise to observe and move any stagnancy the months of winter harbour for us physically and mentally.

The energetic position of the solstice allows us to recognise deep stored emotions and underlying patterns that are not aligned with our growth.

From the cleansing of this limiting residue we create space to set new intentions that will grow and flourish with the power of the Sun as it is reborn in the new solar year.

The evening will include:

  • a beautiful ritual to celebrate the Winter Solstice

Following the workshop, Lama Tendar will lead us through a Group Healing SOUND BATH. Using his bowls and of course his voice in traditional Tibetan prayers, this is a sound healing that resonates.

Teaching Trauma Informed Yoga

In the four hour workshop we will explore the science of trauma response, the methodology of trauma informed yoga and its practical application.

 

The workshop will include:

  • Experiential component - we will begin with an hour long trauma informed vinyasa class.
  • Trauma and its symptoms - we will explore the way trauma shows up in the body, its long term mental and physical impacts and the nature of PTSD.
  • Physiology of trauma response - we will go behind the symptoms of trauma and examine the ways the brain responds to the original trauma, the lasting effects of the freeze response and the role of the Vagus nerve.
  • How movement heals trauma - we will consider the way in which yoga and movement based therapies support healing.
  • Trauma informed yoga - we will learn the principles behind creating a yoga practice that is safe for survivors and conducive to their empowerment. We will discuss the practical reality of each aspect of the practice using real life examples from my work.

This workshop is suitable for experienced teachers, yoga teacher trainees and other practitioners who are using movement therapies in their work with trauma survivors.

About Karen:

Karen is a trauma informed yoga teacher working joyfully in Melbourne. Her interest in yoga as tool for healing and integrating trauma was born of her own practice that was instrumental to transforming her experience of childhood trauma.

Karen works with survivors of trauma individually and groups, in the justice system and rape crisis centres. She has presented on the topic and runs teacher workshops Australia wide.

In a continuous search for ways to better serve her clients Karen is currently completing a masters of counselling and considering the role of cultivating pleasure in post trauma thriving.

This 75 minute Master Class is an experiential trauma informed yoga class with Karen Spitz, MA International Law, yoga teacher, Trauma Informed Yoga Teacher Trainer.

Trauma Informed Yoga is a way of teaching yoga that places the survivor of trauma at the centre of the practice. It seeks to do so through mindfulness to the physiology of trauma and its impact on mental and physical health.

Trauma informed yoga is designed to create a non-threatening, safe space for participants to come back to their bodies.

Participants are supported in making choices about how and when they move their bodies, tools are given to strengthen present moment awareness and to re-establish internal rhythms disrupted by trauma.

Kids Yoga 5 - 8 Year Olds

We are SO delighted to be bringing back to the Yoga Sivana Community our kids yoga program! Led by the gorgeous Ffion Petrie Jones, your little yogis are in for a treat!

Your children will develop body awareness, strength, balance, flexibility and coordination in a space that will nurture awareness and concentration and most importantly confidence in themselves.

And of course your children will naturally find a space that is relaxing and replenishing - some time out for them to simply BE.

Ffion is wonderfully generous and values fun and play, so through music, movement, games and stories, your children will develop a sense of themselves.

Theta Healing Meditation 6 Week Course

We are delighted to be collaborating with Dr Sara Winchester to bring to Yoga Sivana our first 6 week course , exploring the practice and benefits of Theta Meditation.

What is Theta Meditation:

There are five main frequency brain waves: Beta, Alpha, Theta, Delta, and Gamma. These brain waves are in constant motion, the brain produces consistent waves at all frequencies.

When you are in Theta meditation the low frequency theta waves in your brain can help creativity, strong emotional connections as well as lower stress and anxiety and create a healing effect. 

In this course you will meet once a week over 6 weeks, where you will both practice & discuss Theta meditation techniques.You will also receive an audio of the guided meditation to support your home practice. There are ONLY LIMITED SPACES with Dr Sara in this series.
